Psychotherapy & Exercise
I am qualified to instruct Fitness, Boxercise and Tai Chi, and I offer combined psychotherapy & exercise engagements for individuals wishing to explore exercise for mental health.
Combining talk therapy with exercise maximises the potential of both, and this engagement assists individuals to explore exercise and work therapeutically towards improved mental health at the same time. I offer engagements at locations in London, and I lead exercise groups at The Soma Space in Oswestry.
From my work at The Soma Space I have extensive experience as a psychological practitioner leading exercise programmes grounded in trauma-informed and psychotherapeutic principles.
The Mental Health Benefits Of Exercise
Exercise benefits both mental and physical health, improving strength, fitness and flexibility, plus mood, calmness and mind-body connection. Extensive research proves how exercise positively impacts mental health, yet while exercise is recommended by the NHS and GPs many individuals may struggle to begin.
My engagement, grounded in talk therapy, Tai Chi, boxercise and strength training, assists individuals to overcome anxieties around exercise and gently begin exploring how regular movement may help their therapeutic journey.
How Exercise Can Assist Mental Health
I assist clients to learn movements and techniques, and help them progress in their exercise practice.
• Tai Chi can assist with flow, grounding, embodiment and mind-body awareness, and help improve strength, flexibility, posture, balance and breathing.
• Boxercise (boxing techniques practiced as exercise) improves strength, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness and can assist individuals safely explore frustration.
• Strength Training with bodyweight and free weight exercises help individuals become stronger and assist them with autonomy, self-ownership and embodiment.
